I used to overthink supplies, and that alone would stop me from drawing. Now I do this instead:

1) One tool only. Pencil or black pen. If I can’t erase, I draw smaller and lighter at first.

2) One rule: keep each doodle under 3 minutes. Fast doodles = less perfectionism.

3) Fill the page with mini boxes. I lightly divide the paper into little squares/rectangles. Each box gets one idea. It feels like a fun “doodle board” instead of a serious artwork.

1) The round bunny
Start with a circle head. Add two long ovals for ears. Put the eyes low and close together (tiny dots). Add a small “w” mouth. If you want extra cute, add blush dots on the cheeks. The bunny becomes 10x cuter if the head is slightly bigger than the body.

2) The tiny penguin
Draw an egg shape. Add a smaller oval belly inside. Two flippers are just curved lines. Feet can be two little triangles. For the face: two dots and a tiny beak triangle. If you add a scarf, it instantly looks like a character.

3) The sleepy kitty

I love mixing “cute” with a tiny spooky vibe. It’s playful, not intense, and it makes your doodle page feel like a theme.

1) Spider web (simple version)
Start with a small “X” shape. Add more lines between the arms like a starburst. Then connect the lines with curved arcs (like rainbows). Keep it loose. A slightly uneven web still reads as a web.

2) Mini ghost variations
Draw three ghosts in a row: one happy, one surprised, one sleepy. Same body shape, different faces. This is a fun way to practice expression without learning anatomy.

3) Candy shapes
Wrapped candy is just a rectangle with two triangle twists. Add stripes or dots. It’s quick and fills space nicely.

Common beginner struggles (and what I do instead)

“My lines are shaky.”
I draw slower and smaller. Shaky lines look smoother when the doodle is mini. Also, I rest my hand on the paper and move my whole arm a bit more, not just fingers.

“My doodles look childish.”
I simplify on purpose, but I keep shapes consistent. Clean shapes + consistent spacing = cute “simple edition” style, not messy.

“I don’t know what to draw.”
I pick one theme: cute animals, nature, or spooky-cute. A theme makes random doodles feel like a collection.

“I hate the first one I draw.”
I never judge the first doodle. The first one is just a warm-up. I always draw a second version right away.
